Tortch is the Pit Lord for the 8th layer of Waste Land. The great warrior stands on guard at the exit to the 8th layer which leads to the 9th. He lets non pass without challenge and the only way to win would be to take his giant axe and use it against him. The axe he wields is the only weapon known that can cut his flesh. There is said to be a hidden gate somewhere in the 8th layer which lets you proceed to the 9th without facing Tortch, but the location of this gate is unknown and thought to be even more dangerous a path than confronting Tortch in the first place.
