thumb_dimplesThe Dimples are a peaceful race of creatures that live deep under the protective roots of an enormous tree named respectively “The Dimple Tree”.

The great dimple tree stands 75 feet above the forest floor, It is anchored down by dense roots which dig nearly 135 feet into the ground. The history of this mammoth plant dates back more than 2000 years and mythology states it to be much older. It is the only tree known of its species. The dimple tree can be recognized by the special type of nuts it bares.

The dimple tree flowers the dimple nuts year long and with great speed. A dimple nut can grow mature within five to seven days on average. The dimple nut itself is a flawless creation perfectly smooth. Upon hitting sunlight, the nut absorbs light energy and begins to glow. If a dimple nut it picked or opened before it is fully matured, it rejects all light and fades to a solid black mass. This form of nut is usually referred to as a black bean. However, if left untouched, the glowing nut has a very special effect on the creatures that live inside the tree.

The Dimples

The Dimple Nut is not the only growth that spawns from the Dimple Tree. Among its branches small cocoon-like growths can seldom be found. These cocoons sprout once every twenty years. Only five to ten of these cocoons grow per season and can take up to one month to ripen. When these cocoons are maturing, almost no dimple nuts sprout until the cocooning season has ended.

The Cocoon
The cocoon starts out as a small bud which looks much like the beginning on a flower. After a few days the bud develops a soft coating. The soft coating begins to harden into a protective shell to protect it from predators. During the next five days the cocoon matures then finally blossoms. Upon blossoming the cocoon opens into a beautiful flower where a small egg is lowered to the ground slowly on a string of sap which filled the cocoon. Minutes after touching the ground, the egg hatches. The creature that emerges is known as a Dimple. Instinctively the Dimple will crawl directly towards the tree and then inside it.  Once inside it is greeted with a prepared ceremony by a society of it’s own that dwells beneath the tree.

The dimple is about 2 inches tall and weighs an average of 0.3 pounds. A dimple will usually retain the color of the flower from whence it hatched. They live on the special nuts that grow from the tree which they live under. These nuts when consumed, give the dimples temporary abilities that help them in their daily lives.

From inside the tree a Dimple can crawl through a web of roots to reach the Dimple City. Here, the Dimples live humble lives within a culture of their own. The city is comprised of many different structures made from sand and mud collected from the walls of the hollowed ground of their surroundings.

Dimple Culture
The Dimples are mostly peaceful creatures who work together harvesting Dimple Nuts and managing careers within their society. Besides working, the Dimples have created a wonderful culture including literature, artwork, music and philosophy.

The dimples use the help of underground snails called Sluggies to help move large amounts of Dimple Nuts and other bulk items. Some dimples can fly after eating certain types of Dimple Nuts. This is one of the many powers a Dimple can acquire from eating the nuts they so love and cherish.

The only enemies known to the Dimples are the Evil Mouse Hoard who are constantly trying to knock Dimple Nuts off the Dimples tree to create and steal Black Beans to which the mice harvest for its black magic. The Mice are lead my a brilliantly evil mouse by the name of King Colby.
